© 2001 June McHardy Have you ever wondered how Olympic athletes can function so well under the extreme pressure of the Games? How can they remain so focused when there's so much going on around them? The answer is that they train for years! They learn to put together all their resources, physical as well as mental and psychological. Yes!, their attitudes, emotions and even their joy goes into the mix and personal excellence is the result. But this process is not available ONLY to athletes. It's also available to YOU! All you have to do is train yourself in the various areas of your life. The result is that you will trigger your best performance state, creating success for yourself in whatever arena you are performing in... be it business, sports, raising children or whatever. So let's get started! Energy States: It's very important to monitor our personal energy states when we perform and to be able to access our best positive energy states (enthusiasm, joy, excitement, laughter, awe, etc.) during performances and then be able to relax into the low positive energy states (rest, relaxation, quietly playing, etc.) afterwards to recover. Negative energy dissipates your concentration and works against you. One way to train yourself to change these states is write down and monitor your energy states for several weeks. Have Fun: Start a Laughter Book, collect funny stories and jokes, or just start having fun with everything you do. Laughter gets rid of the negativity and gets your creative juices flowing. It's also a good way to create and keep loving relationships and cooperation. Thinking and Visualizing: Decide precisely what you want to accomplish. Make a clear mental picture and at least twice a day, go somewhere private, clear your mind and think about your goal - visualizing it as if it is already happening. Get the emotional rolling as well. Feel the excitement! Diet and Exercise: We all know what we should be eating. We don't need another diet book. We also know that we should be doing some aerobic and anaerobic exercises to maintain peak energy and clear thinking. These should be added to the mix along with some good deep diaphragmatic breathing as well as plenty of sleep. Work on each of these areas for the next 6 weeks, tracking and assessing your progress and you'll have placed yourself in training for the most important event ever - Your Life! Remember, for you as with the Olympic athletes, there really isn't such a thing as luck. Your success is due to your own efforts. It happens because YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ June McHardy is a co-editor of the Motivational Ezine 'Prosperity News'.
